Tink's Room

With the hype we have been giving my son's room I don't want to forget how awesome it was to get my daughter's ready.  It's was so special and brings back those great memories of when she was so tiny and loud.  It was so exciting to know that we would soon have a little person occupying this big old house with us and that the sounds that we were so used to would no longer be.  Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

We wanted to stick with bright happy colors and that is why we went this route.  We figured that since it took us a little bit to get pregnant with Tink, by the time #2 would be on the way we could transition her to a more "girlie" room and use the same nursery for #2.  It didn't quite work that way since I got pregnancy with Tank when Tink was 11 months.  What happy planning we did!

This is my favorite thing from the room.  I made a stencil a painted stitches all along the trim and windows in the room.  In though my belly was big and heavy at the time I was determined.

Just a Little Artwork

We couldn't find this rug that went along with the bedding we found on clearance so I thought it would be great to paint it onto a huge canvas.  I was happy when it was done because it tied everything together.

Tink's Room Today

As much as I try to avoid the pink fru-fruness I can't deny that pink makes her room more girly and it's ok.  I've learned to embrace it.  It will definitely take a more girly atmosphere once I change out her curtains and add some other things down the line.

Getting this room together was a great adventure full of memories, emotions, and experiences.  I can't wait to see how this room grows with her.  So happy that the occupant of this room has come into our lives and we feel blessed every single day.

Lovely Curly Locks

My daughter has inherited my thick, curly head of hair.  Lucky for her, her mom knows the issues that can happen when trying to tame the lovely tresses.  My son may also be on the same route but I am hoping that trips to the barber shop in the future might be able to help him and if not, mom has you covered son.

These are the items in my curly hair kit and my best tips.

- detangler or spray bottle with water
- extra virgin organic coconut oil
- wide tooth comb or prickly brush (see picture)
- smoothing brush
- no snag soft hair ties

These are my all time favorite hair ties.  I can only find these specific ones at Walgreens.

I have used them for years and if they stretch out too much I put them in the wash and they go right back to how they were out of the package.

Scunci makes them but these specific ones have no metal to snag in your hair and are a continuous loop (no seem to accidentally pull apart when tugging on them hard).  

I keep this itty bitty smoother brush in my purse for an occasional touch ups.  It's better than carrying around the big bulky one.

Tip #1:  Never detangle or comb curly hair when dry.  To avoid major damage, always spray with detangler or water.  Then start to comb starting at the tips moving your way up little by little.  Doing it this way will hurt less.

Tip #2:  When detangled, add tiny bit of coconut oil to the ends.  Take smoothing brush and gather hair into desired ponytail, pigtails, etc.  Use no snag hair ties to secure.  Using the smoothing brush lays those tiny stubborn baby hairs.  Never use rubber bands or anything like that because it breaks the hair and it hurts when you try to take them out (unless you cut them off).

This is about 2 hours into the day.  I don't like putting products in her hair so I let nature take it's course.

And this is what happens when she doesn't want me to do her hair.  Little brother gets  a nice handful when she least expects it.
